April 30, 1972 a fire which was deemed arson, started in a breezeway at the rear of the building. The historical building which was built 1842 was occupied by King Sol, Stephen License, Browns Iron Works, John's Cigar Store, A Lawyers office and several apartments.
The gutted building was located on Front and Victoria, where the Cogeco building currently sits.
The current property was home to the Bank of Nova Scotia for more than 30 years until Cogeco took it over.
